A food desert is classified as limited access to affordable healthy food options.
We saw recently with eggs that at any moment our food supply can be disrupted. A power hold by large corporations and a lack of little farms and ranchers has led to quick swings of a large pendulum. The food desert I see is a lack of locally grown fresh food.
Like housing, the market has been saturated with large money. Leaving it to nonprofits and local governments to try and fit the bill. I talk with local producers often and the inability for small business expansion is the leading factor in local food deserts.
Outside of farmers markets, our few remaining local stores and direct to consumer. Most small locally grown operations have difficulty getting food in American houses. Unless your community has a great initiative on locally grown food. You most likely live in a food desert.
If we allow the continued growth of the select few and the deterioration of the many, we will leave nothing and loss all. Prices are being set, our nation is being bought, and our wealth in the most basic of human rights is no longer certain.
If we can’t feed our people and we can’t house are people. What can we do?
