Welcome back to roadmap, this is week 5. This week we explore food in a different light, a much lighter light.
I once played college football. It was a small school, but I was a big guy. I stood 6’4 and weighed 325 pounds. Now however my weight stays around 225 to 235. I’ve lost over 100 pounds all through calories.
What are calories? Calories to me are the baseline numeric amounts for every food you eat. No matter what you put into your body, outside of water, it has some form of calorie. How did I lose weight learning this?
First, I never changed my diet. I’m not going to spend hours explaining macros or micros. How much protein you need and how much fiber. It doesn’t matter if weight loss is goal number one. I’ve lost weight eating nothing but fast food for months. I’ve lost weight eating nothing but candy. I’ve lost weight eating just pizza. What did I count everyday, the calories.
If you stay below a baseline caloric amount your body has to get energy from somewhere, stored fat and muscle. Let’s say I eat a McChicken from McDonalds. I have now consumed around 350 calories. My baseline calories for my activity level are 2350. Now this means I don’t get to eat 2 burgers and a large fry from McDonalds or if I do, that’s my meal for the day.
The secret to weight loss is consistently doing this for 3 months. If you deviate for one day or a week it doesn’t matter as long as you eat to below calories on average. Add in some working out or cardio and there’s no way you can maintain fat.
Eat what you like to eat, start looking at what you’re putting into your body and don’t fret it. Life’s hard enough. Start small and build with time.
