The difficulty of golf

Today I swung my club as hard as I could and yet, it went nowhere.

For me the hardest part of golf is the mental game. I understand like all good things it will take time to master. I go out 30 minutes to an hour every night and hit golf balls. I calculate distances, check new clubs that fit my height and work towards improving my game. I understand it will take time. Lots of time.

The thing that baffles me still however is the mental game golf plays. I’ve played college football, I’ve been rewarded for work in Jiujitsu and mixed martial arts. I run long distances, and I’ve lifted 300 plus pounds in my bench press. All of them had the same outcome if I was aggressive and bold the game paid off. Not golf. Golf requires a clear mind a zen like focus that I have still yet to master. If you are pissed at your game it will only get worse. Golf has to be done in complete and utter peace.

I find this to be the most difficult task in my golf game. How do I calm the nerves, bring down the temp, and relax the body? When I do I hit the ball perfectly. When I can’t, the game is all but lost. Maybe I will find it with time or maybe I’ll pass, never knowing the truth behind the swing. All I can do is practice.
