My learning has started to pay off in a big way.
I’ve learned to slow everything down and practice endlessly. In jiujitsu yesterday I had 10 submissions. In chess I reached level 900 in speed chess. In golf I started hitting consistently. My Spanish started sounding better. All because I slowed down the practice. Focused on the technique and was ok with going back to move forward.
That’s what education has taught me. You have to be willing to take a step back to really move forward. Life’s that way. If we focus too long on the task. Without working to understand the task we will learn nothing. What I mean by this is we have a tendency to say we are learning. I see it all the time in golf. Most play 18 holes once a month and they wonder why their game isn’t improving. Well you never practiced. You never broke the game down. Take dieting. People wonder why they aren’t losing after a week. Well it takes a month.
We as humans don’t want to break down the task. When we do, we think we can’t or that it’s too hard to understand. The truth is the second we understand the length and practice required in learning and in life. The only limiting factor will always be, ourselves. Slow down, take your time and understand. Life takes time, so does learning.
