My golf update

I can’t stop golfing. I’ve never had the urge for anything like I do for golf. I’m mad I live in a cold state because all of my golf courses are closed. Now it’s time for the simulator. I’m not a huge fan of the simulator. The swings feel off and the depth perception on the courses is hard for me. Yet, I know it’s the best way to practice over the winter. Especially when it comes to the raw data you get on your swings and distance.

I had an eye opening experience yesterday in regards to the numbers. Usually I can only hit my driver about 208 yards max, with roll out. Yet yesterday I had a carry distance of 220 yards and a roll out to 260 average. I noticed the more I relax the better I do. I also started setting my ball like a pro with the balls label near the back. Giving me a small spot to aim my shot. This increased my distance over all. My 3 wood went from an average carry of 140 yards to 170 yards. My 5 iron went from 130 yards max carry to 160 yards. This has really given me more confidence in my swing and play. Next I will implement practice sessions to further increase my game.

First, I’ll start by hitting every club a minimum of 30 times every time I play a round of golf. Familiarity is key in golf. How does everything feel? If you can create consistency your average score will always decrease due to consistent good on average hits. Focusing on where I hit the ball, how my lower body moves and how the club feels through impact.

Second, I’ll hit my putter and wedges a minimum of 50 times every time I practice. The short game is the key to lowering your score. If you 3 putt on every hole you have to account for that. The only way around it, is to putt and chip consistently, like your main swings.  Pros put in the time and so can a very bad amateur golfer, like myself.

Third, I’ll play the same golf course on the simulator until I’m familiar with it. I’ve noticed I jump around a lot in the course play. I pick out a new course every time I play a round. This causes frustration, but back to familiarity. If I don’t know the course how can I play well? Pros practice before the main event on courses. I assume I’ll hit good on a course I’ve never seen. Play the same course.

I’ll keep everyone updated on my winter golf journey. I hope to be able to lower my scores even more. I ended the summer shooting a 46 on the front 9 of my country club golf course which has a close out par of 35 for the front 9. I can only improve.
