A little thought my dad had and would like to share with the world.
Housing, it’s one of those things that is a necessity for virtually everyone, other than those who prefer homelessness, but for many it is a dream, the ultimate dream. I’m not going to bore you with facts, but if you’re willing to believe my numbers, which are maybe somewhat-ish close, well then read on, if 100% god’s honest facts are your thing, this article will, to quote “Norsemen, not be your sort of thing”.
Let’s break it down from the perspective of an uneducated, yet fairly common sense and financially stable mature adult. The majority of homes that are currently owned in the US are owned by people that are in an advanced stage of aging, let’s say 60-90 years of age. Now let’s say that many of these home owners also own homes in other countries. Now let’s say that many, I don’t have a percentage, but let’s say that the majority do not have more than one child. Now let’s assume that many of the homes owned by these elderly-ish home owners are in locations where there are not very many jobs, essentially making these retirement type locations. So long story short, a whole bunch of old people are going to die in the next 10 to 30 years, leaving a whole bunch of properties to people that have zero interest or ability to live in them. Will this crash and or drive the market down, or cause massive levels of unoccupied residential properties?
Who knows, it’s probably worth researching….
