Another Numbers Game

A good thought peace from my Dad!

I wrote a brief article about a similar subject a few weeks ago, where I mentioned housing, the age of the average home owner, the number of children they have and a couple other items. This article is similar, but a bit interactive, more of a food for thought type article, and as before, I won’t state specific numbers, facts or statistics, but if you’re bored and any of these topics peak your interest, they may be worth a little internet investigatory exercise. Here we go…..

  • What is the average age of current home owners?
  • How many children do the people in this age group have “it’s probably good to just include all dependents that may inherit their homes” Grandkids if they exist?
  • What are the populations where people own their homes? “This could be interesting information for a couple of reasons” 1. Are there jobs where these homes will be inherited, so people can afford to either live in them or others can afford to buy them when they are more than likely sold” 2. Are there potentially going to be a great deal of areas with these types of home opportunities on the market at the same time?
  • If these types of properties are kept and rented, will there be plenty of people out there to rent them?
  • Is today’s population having a larger number of children than former generations did? “Why does this matter, although we’re in a housing shortage now, will it continue if a housing surplus emerges and fewer people are having kids?”

The list could go on and on, but if you consider a few items, like population, the ages of home owners, the number of rentals that are currently controlled by a very wealthy few and the people passing away over time, there could be a few outcomes. The very wealthy will buy more and more properties further making the market demographic of real estate ownership a luxury that only the uber wealthy can afford.  Or, will the market become so flooded with properties for rent and sale that there will be a major crash and re-leveling for the real estate/rental industry.

Who knows, just food for thought and if nothing else, this may produce a ton of questions…

Enjoy
