A short horror story for all, please enjoy!
The house was clean. That would make sense he had just moved in the night before. The new morning sun shines across the old grey floor boards. Shadows danced up the cabinets and sprang off the walls. He sat in the single chair in the living room. Small taps could be heard as he bounced his knee in anticipation. So far nothing made a noise, nothing moved. He sat back and let out a sigh. Stairs in the corner of the room caught his eye. I have to be safe near those I wish it was a single floor. He thought deeply, he thought a lot. The world he had once known, no more. He had his chair, in the kitchen he had his pan and in his room upstairs a single mattress on the floor. He had no items they took too long to move. He used to dream and have goals. Used to think that in a few years he’d marry that girl he met. Then he let it in. Let complacency build its tendrils deep into his mind. He had everything, a good job, good friends, good life, and a love that many would die for. He wanted more. You don’t make deals with the devil. Even if they promise you everything. All he wanted was to be set for life. He wanted to never have to worry. Make her love me forever, let me travel, make me more money. He stood and walked towards the kitchen. The thoughts of old still eating at the little will he had left. Some things haunt you forever. If greed didn’t create the monster, life would still be the same. Maybe slow, maybe uncertain but a distant memory that he now wishes he still had. He stepped into the kitchen as his eyes adjusted to the dim light. He heard his chair move behind him. He looked back over his shoulder and noticed the chair rocking back and forth. You don’t make deals with the devil. Time to move again for some things haunt you forever.
