“What’s her name?” He shifted through the documents in front of him. “Her name is Lucy, 14 years old.” The date at the title read June 5th, 2026. “She started having symptoms about 3 months ago. They’ve now turned violent.” He lifted the next page and saw images of scratch marks on multiple victims. The marks were the same as ones he’d seen before. Large gashes from crooked nails all in the same right to left patterns. Three fingers, the index, middle and ring were all that were used to scratch. “Where is she now?” They met his eyes nervously. “She’s in the holding cell, are you sure you can do this?” He chuckled, “Easily.” The room was dark and cramped; she sat at the end of a large metal table. Her hands were handcuffed behind her back and connected to the floor through the back of her chair. Her feet also cuffed had crimson blood flowing from broken nails that had been dragged on the concrete. Her head was down looking at the floor. He grabbed the only other chair in the room from the table and pulled it directly in front of her. He sat calmly and pulled out his phone, setting it on the metal table next to the girl. Next he grabbed his bag and pulled out his notebook before he finally spoke. “Lucy, who am I?” She sat quietly, not a word echoed from her lips. “Lucy, I’m going to ask one more time before I hit play on the phone next to you and figure out who you are to tell me. Who am I?” Again she sat in silence. He wrote, the subject is unresponsive, smart they may know what i have planned. They also hide the face, interesting, this tactic has yet to be seen. “Lucy, I’ll give you one more chance to answer. After that I’ll do what I like to call the name game lie detector test. My phone will start playing a list of names starting with A. I’ll watch you until you react to one of them. At that point I’ll make sure you are removed from this place. I will know you. So before I know you, tell me. Who am I?” Lucy’s head snapped up and her eyes met his. Her eyes were pure black like her pupils and sclera had switched places. Her pupils a dark almost black red. She smiled, her face cracking and covered in unsealed scars. “Jim Gilford, 86 West Huber St Kilmore, Washington. Father of 2, no arrest record but a large collection of porn you still keep hidden from your beautiful wife Lisa. Does she ever look on your hard-drive? You say you believe in god but you leave enough doubt that even you lie to yourself. You watch the same program at exactly 8 pm every night and you fantasize about killing innocent people. You’ve seen things that make people burn for years. Shall I go on?” Her voice is not that of a 14 year old girl, more like an old biker. He wrote down in the notebook. He felt a smile start creeping across his face. “No need to continue Lucy. It’s now time for me to learn who you are.” He pressed the play button on his phone. “Thats not part of the deal,” Lucy stuttered in anger. His smile grew larger as he spoke,”It wasn’t a lie, I just asked a question and even as you said, I lie to myself. All I care is to find your name, and expel the demon.”
