They say that God created man in his image. That God gave us free will. So I ask myself would God condone a church created by human intervention or was the intention to give community not servitude? For they say God sends warriors that hide among us ordinary people. They are marked by God to be the just light in a world of lies and human sin. Some of these warriors lived and died without ever once praying to god or knowing he was their creator. They died with just hearts and just minds. They did so without a thought of personal gain. You see God sends warriors; they aren’t your religious leaders or your best followers. No they are something different. They are the true messengers of God. The ones who don’t even realize it.
He sat back against his seat. The car idle changed again as he turned the knob on the AC. He watched her from a distance. She was gorgeous in a beautiful yellow flower summer dress. Her dirty blonde hair was done up in a pony tail and she walked the streets with clueless happiness of the person following her. He’d been following her for sometime now. At least 10 minutes according to his watch. She was stopped now on the side of the road playing with a local street cat. It rolled around on its back as she giggled. He was sitting just a few feet away at this point hidden behind the dark tint on his vehicle’s windows. It’s amazing how close you can be to someone and they won’t notice. She must be here for college, he thought to himself. He hadn’t seen her before and the school year was just about to begin. The town only had about thirty thousand people, decent sized but you knew the locals. She petted the cat one last time and started her walk down the sidewalk again. He put the car in drive and started rolling forward, slowly. Just far enough away so they didn’t notice. He knew this town well, he’d lived here his entire life. Every road, turn, and the surrounding woods. The street she was about to take was one of the quietest in town. It had only one occupied home at the end of the street. The other houses were abandoned or so dilapidated only the homeless stayed in them. This is the street where he’d make his move. She definitely wasn’t from around here. Sure enough just like it was planned she turned right and started walking down the street he knew she would. The car inched closer and he watched every movement. The car was immaculate, old and well kept, too well kept. The car was just an arms reach away now from the girl. It would be over in an instant. The driver’s side door opened as the car came to a quick stop in the middle of the road. The man stepped out and the oblivious girl finally started to noticed things were off. She turned towards her attacker and started to panic. He read the situation perfectly, he knew the car was up to no good. With a quick movement he brought his own vehicle to stop. He grabbed his 308 rifle out of his passenger seat that he had prepared moments ago to stop this attack. He propped open his door, set the gun in the door frame for a rest and jacked in a shell. He whistled just as the man grabbed the girl’s arm. She he fell to the ground with a scream of panic. The man froze and turned to catch the glint of a scope. “Hey buddy, I suggest you leave the gal alone. Unless you’d rather have a couple holes in ya.” The man instantly let go of the girl and ran back to his car. He already had the license plate, model and year seared into his brain. The man put the car in drive and disappeared around the corner. The girl sat up as he jacked the bullet out of his rifle. The fresh tears on her face made him happy he had been there. “He’d been following you for about 10 minutes ever since you left the store. I suggest watching your back a little bit more.” the girl whimpered in shame and fear. “Would you like a ride home? Or I can park here and walk with you if that makes you more comfortable.” The girl agreed to a walk.
He watched her as she stepped up to her door and she waved a thank you as he started the long walk back to his car. His kids looked at him as he told the story. They always thought it was mom the story was about but dad would finish the story by saying he’d never see that woman again. He was just there when she needed it the most. I guess that’s the life lesson he wanted us to learn. That life may feel pointless and you may ask what does it all mean? But maybe that’s the point, there ain’t a point at all. Just us being there when someone else needs it.
