Taken

She could hear the roar of the crowds as the memories rushed back in. It felt like it had only been yesterday when the men surrounded her mom and her. Her mom fought back as best she could, but the lashes still stung in her memory. She could see her mother’s eyes as they held hands. Her eyes said so much fear, sorrow, and last but not least, anger at the fact she couldn’t save her only daughter. She still remembers the men yelling as they pulled her away. She still remembers the chains that rubbed her skin raw. She still remembers the cramped box car and the smell of filth. The doors near her opened to the announcement of the director. “Now introducing Lucy the elephant straight from the plains of Africa!” The crowd erupted.
